The annual updates to the ICD-10 and MS-DRG systems have been finalized and will be effective October 1. The ICD-10 and MS-DRG updates reflect the final Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) rule for fiscal year 2020. You can see the details on IPPS here.
Other highlights of the ICD-10-CM changes, include:
- There are 273 new codes, 21 deleted codes and 30 new code revisions.
- Updated guidelines for pressure ulcer stages, pressure-induced deep tissue damage, iatrogenic injuries, physeal fractures, multiple unspecified drugs, coding for complications, and counseling.
- 30+ new codes to Chapter 12, Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (L00 – L99) as well as Chapter 17, Congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities (Q00 – Q99).
- 75+ new codes to Chapter 19, Injury, poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes (S00 – T88) and Chapter 20, External causes of morbidity (V00 – Y99).
