UASI Training for FY2020 ICD-10-PCS Updates

The annual updates to the ICD-10 and MS-DRG systems have been finalized and will be effective October 1. The ICD-10 and MS-DRG updates reflect the final Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) rule for the fiscal year 2020. You can see the details on IPPS here.

Other highlights of the ICD-10-PCS changes include:

  • 734 new codes, 2 revised titles and 2,056 deleted codes indicating the efforts to reduce the number of coding errors by removing character values that are clinically invalid.
  • Guideline revisions including Section D now being for Radiation Therapy, also containing 2 new guidelines: D1.a and D1.b. Formerly Section D New Technology is now Section E New Technology with 2 guidelines E1.a and E1.b.
  • New qualifiers, including those for Central Nervous System and Cranial Nerves, Heart and Great Vessels, Upper Arteries and others.

This is the second one-hour video training courses we will be sharing. The first covered ICD-10-CM. The last, on MS-DRG updates, will be ready later in September. Outpatient coders only need ICD-10-CM training, while inpatient coders need all three.
